Getting Marriage Certificate

Recently i went through the process of getting a marriage certificate. This require the following details to be provided at the corporation office (The corporation office/ Village Panchayat under whose jurisdiction the marriage happened), and for this bride and groom has to go in person and has to be done within 15 days of the marriage (In case 15 days are over, procedures are little more difficult)

  • Form filled in duplicate (This can be obtained from the respective Corporation/Panchayat Office)
  • Date of Birth (Preferably Class X certificate) - Attested true copy
  • Original Wedding Invitation letter
  • A letter written in local language addressed to secretary to please issue a married certificate. This letter should clearly mention your parent details, marriage hall details and date of marriage.
  • A letter from the marriage hall or the temple at which the function was held.
  • Rs 100/- (Additional amount in case copy of married certificate required)
  • Two witnesses (Should not be a direct relative but should be one who have attended your marriage)
Give the filled form with other details as requested at the respective department in corporation/panchayat office. They will ask you to get a signature from the secretary (If he is not around you just have to wait) in a filled up form. After that you pay the money in the cash counter and get a receipt which you give back to the department where you gave the form initially. they will then inform you to come and collect the married certificate in less than a week.

The actual collection of the married certificate need not require the bride/groom to go in person and can be collected by any person who goes with the receipt.

Married certificate is now mandatory as per law and is required specifically to add ur spouse name in Passport for getting spouse visa or similar thing like insurance, bank account nominee proof etc.

Thanks for sharing. I also acquired a duplicate of my marriage certificate online and I am able to get it as easy as that. It's convenient too.
