Getting ECNR

Yesterday i went to get ECNR stamped onto the passport. The best thing would have been if i had got the ECNR stamp initially when i applied itself. It just need tenth standard mark sheet. Let me explain the process. To know more about ECNR go through the FAQ

1. Download the ECNR form and fill it.
2. Register for an online appointment through passport office website (for Bangalore). Keep a printout of the appointment letter
3. If you have a PAN card then that is the easiest of proof else carry any of the items as mentioned in the above FAQ. Carry a photocopy of this.
4. You need to give a proof of residence. For all those people like me for whom getting a proof of residence (phone bill in your name and showing permanent address, note gas connection is not taken as a proof of residence) is a difficult get a letter from the company which mention the present address. This is taken as a proof.
5. Take a photocopy of the first few pages of passport.
6. Stick a photo in the application form. it should be with a white background. No additional photo is needed.
7. Go and submit the form on the appointed day as indicated in the appointment letter. Once again check the following:
  • Passport (and photocopy of first few sheets)
  • Proof of residence (letter from office would do)
  • Filled form
  • PAN card (a photocopy of it) or degree certificate)
  • Appointment letter
8. Submit in the enquiry counter at least 10 min before the appointed time (else you have to come back again). (In Bangalore, you have to go to regional passport office Koramangala [near to mational games village] and this is in the first floor). Pay Rs 400/- and show originals when they ask for it. They will give you a receipt.
9. Go next day with the receipt at the mentioned time and collect the passport in person.

Hope this should help someone as any deviation from the above means you would have to go again.

8/5/2008>Recently i have heard the ECNR is not needed anymore. Check with your agent to confirm it.

As far as i know there is no relation between ECNR and address.. as no address proof is asked during ECNR.

Hi Jishnu,

It is an excellent information provided by you regd ECNR. I have few doubts about this, i hope u can reply me soon.
1. I have taken passport in 2003 in hyderabad, can i apply for ECNR in bangalore?
2. Is PAN card is sufficient or i need to take my degree certificates for ECNR. If PAN card is sufficient means, do i need to attest the photocopy or a simple photocopy will suffice.

Thanks in advance for the information providing by you.

Karthik

Hi Jishnu,

Thanks for all the info on ur blog. It really helped me in getting my ecnr done.
There is a lil information that i would like to share with everyone. If you are submitting your pan card as proof for your ecnr,You need to furnish proof of filing your tax return. In this case you need to also carry with you the acknowledegement you receive when you submit your form 16. Without this they no longer accept your Pan card.
If this is tiresome, you can just take your sslc or degree certificate.
In bangalore they will give you the passport on the same day.

Hope this helps!!!

cheers!!
